【摘要】:Ithaslongbeenthepracticetoincludeinfuelspecificationsarequirementthatthefuelbeclearandbrightandfreeofvisibleparticulatematter(seeNote1).However,therehasbeennostandardmethodformakingthisdeterminationsothatpracticeshavediffered.Thistestmethodprovidesstandardproceduresforthetest.Note18212;Cleanandbrightissometimesusedinplaceofclearandbright.Themeaningisidentical.Procedure1providesarapidpass/failmethodforcontaminationinadistillatefuel.Procedure2providesagrossnumericalratingofhazeappearance,primarilyasacommunicationtool.Othertestmethods,includingTestMethodsD1744,D2276,D2709,andD4860,permitquantitativedeterminationsofcontaminants.NorelationshiphasbeenestablishedbetweenProcedure2andvariousquantitativemethods.Limitedlaboratoryevaluationsofsamplesthathavefailedthisclearandbrighttestindicatethatanexperiencedtestercandetectaslittleas40ppmoffreewaterinthefuel.1.1Thistestmethodcoverstwoproceduresforestimatingthepresenceofsuspendedfreewaterandsolidparticulatecontaminationindistillatefuelshavingdistillationendpointsbelow400CandanASTMcolorof5orless.1.1.1Bothprocedurescanbeusedasfieldtestsatstoragetemperatures,oraslaboratorytestsatcontrolledtemperatures.1.1.2Procedure1providesarapidpass/failmethodforcontamination.Procedure2providesagrossnumericalratingofhazeappearance.1.2ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
